In northern Maryland, home to around 240,000 residents, Frederick County is part of the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria metro area. This remarkable county has experienced tremendous growth in recent years and is bordered by northeastern Virginia and southern Pennsylvania. Frederick County has been home to numerous historical figures such as Barbara Fritchie, Roger B. Taney, Thomas Johnson and Francis Scott Key. Frederick County is also home to Catoctin Mountain Park and the U.S. Army’s Fort Detrick, Clustered Spires, the National Museum of Civil War Medicine and the Schifferstadt Architectural Museum. The County was created in 1748 from portions of Baltimore and Prince George’s counties. Comprised of approximately 667 square miles, it was once much larger, however in 1776 it was divided into 3 parts, the western part becoming Washington County, the southern part becoming Montgomery County and the northern part remaining Frederick County. In 1837 it was reduced in size again as a part of it was combined with a part of Baltimore County to create Carroll County, which lies east of Frederick County today. Despite these many reductions, Frederick County remains the largest county in Maryland in geographical land area.

Frederick County is home to several noteworthy communities including Brunswick, Burkittsville, Emmitsburg, Frederick and Middletown and the towns of Mount Airy, Myersville, New Market, Thurmont, Walkersville and Woodsboro. Frederick County is also home to the Village of Rosemont and the census-designated places known as: Ballenger Creek, Braddock Heights, Clover Hill, Discovery-Spring Garden, Green Valley, Linganore-Bartonsville, Urbana and numerous unincorporated communities as well. Homes for sale in Frederick County vary in size, architectural style and price depending upon a number of factors including location. There are sometimes exceptions, but typically the highest listing price you’ll see for a condo in Frederick county is around $335,000, while the average condo listing price is nearer to $148,000. The highest listing price for a townhome in Frederick County is around $839,000, while the average listing price is nearer to $212,000. While a single family home can cost as much as $2.9 million, the average listing price is around $426,000.
